What does School Council do?
School Council gives all pupils at Curwen Primary School a voice.
The work as a school councillor helps to put Article 12 of the Rights of a Child by the United Nations Convention into practice. Article 12 says:
“Children have the right to say what they think should happen, when adults are making decisions that affect them, and to have their opinions taken into account.”
How to be a good School Councillor?
Speaking, listening and teamwork are the key skills required.
Much of what you do involves listening to others that is pupils in your class or school, or teachers and governors.
- You will need to find out about their concerns and also their opinions about things.
- You must be able to speak up about things on pupil’s behalf at your council meetings.
- You will have to report back to your class or teachers or governors sometimes about how things are going
- You may be involved in actions that will affect the whole school at other times
- You will need to work with other school councillors
